Bio
Matthew Davis was born in Chicago. After studying journalism at the University of Missouri, he moved to Mongolia as a Peace Corps volunteer in 2000. When he returned to the U.S., Davis received an MFA in nonfiction writing from the University of Iowa, where he was an Iowa Arts Tuition Fellow, a Writer-in-Resident at the Museum of Art, and a Postgraduate Writing Fellow. He spent his time at Iowa writing his first book–When Things Get Dark: A Mongolian Winter’s Tale, a work of nonfiction inspired by his three years in Mongolia. His writing has received awards from the Atlantic Monthly and Best American Travel Writing. He’s currently a student and fellow at Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies, where he focuses on the Middle East.
